I thought, after traveling so much, that I’d been pleasantly surprised by the turquoise beaches around the world. But no… Turks and Caicos took my breath away from the moment I landed on the island to the moment I left. Aside from the shocking, even “glowing” blue color, the turquoise sea is everywhere. The entire region is protected by coral, meaning there isn’t a single beach without clear water. From the most famous beach, Grace Bay, to the smallest and most hidden beaches, everything is surprising.
Turks and Caicos is a sophisticated destination, with many luxury hotels and less mass tourism. Despite being taken over by big resorts, there are no “all-inclusive” resorts (if there are, there are few), and the place lacks the busy Caribbean vibe of Cancún and Punta Cana.
Maybe it’s a little more expensive to eat, stay, and sightsee. But I swear the beaches are worth it. Turks and Caicos is in my top 5 favorites in the Caribbean. And it’s one of the most beautiful beach destinations I’ve ever visited! The islands have also become popular with celebrities. It’s not uncommon to hear of celebrities vacationing there, and it seems like there are more of them every year.
Turks and Caicos is a country in the Caribbean, dependent on the United Kingdom (British Overseas Territory), formed by 40 islands (only 9 are inhabited). The main ones are Providenciales, Grand Turk, South Caicos, West Caicos, and East Caicos.
It is close to the Bahamas and also very close to Cuba and the Dominican Republic. In total, it has a population of 35,000 (more than 27,000 live in Providenciales, which is not the capital, but the most important city. The capital is Cockburn City, on Grand Turk). It is famous for its tourism (mainly from the United States and Canada) and also as a tax haven.
The official language is English, but the locals speak Creole. The population is of African origin, but there are many immigrants from the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and there is also a “floating population”, who arrive based on the seasons (North America and Europe).
As in most parts of the Caribbean, the best time to visit is from late November to early May, when there is less rainfall and it is not hurricane season. We went in mid-April and enjoyed all the beautiful, sunny days (it only rained one day in the evening). It was very windy though. I can’t say if it was because of the time we went or because it’s always like this.
And perhaps one of the biggest factors in our satisfaction while there was the fact that we stayed at a Turks and Caicos White Villas resort. It was a resort managed by a well-known villa and resort service provider in the islands, White Villas.
By staying at that resort we were able to experience all the fun that is possible on the islands and if possible, we would like to repeat that. Turks and Caicos White Villas resorts are top-notch and for a more affordable price than most other resorts charge, we were able to experience a five-star experience and all the conveniences and comforts during our days there.
For example, when we wanted to spend one day relaxing on a chaise lounge by the beach, we were only a few minutes walk away, and when during the day we wanted to relax while gazing at the Caribbean Sea in the distance, we just went upstairs to our spacious balcony. It was so nice to see the ocean during the day and it still rings true to this day. And to add to the Caribbean vacation flavor, White Villas made sure we had a personal chef who was able to cook a variety of Turks and Caicos specialties with a “twist”.
