In 2023, the Geek Bar brand did something that’s been accomplished only a handful of times in the nearly two-decade history of the vaping industry: It released a truly revolutionary product. The Geek Bar Pulse introduced two new features that hadn’t previously been seen before in one vaping product. The first of those features was a dual-coil configuration that allowed the device to provide two selectable vaping modes, and the second was a smart screen containing meters for the device’s battery and vape juice supply. Those features combined to make the Geek Bar Pulse the world’s most popular vaping device, which is what it remains today as 2024 draws to a close.

Although the Geek Bar Pulse is still the best-selling disposable vape, it doesn’t stand alone in the vaping industry anymore because it has essentially remade the industry in its image. It’s virtually impossible now to find a new disposable vape that doesn’t have a smart screen and adjustable power. At risk of losing its leadership position, Geek Bar is now faced with the task of attempting to surpass its own greatest hit with a follow-up product that’s even better. That product is the new Geek Bar Pulse X.

So, is the Geek Bar Pulse X going to be a winner, and what are the real differences between the Geek Bar Pulse and Pulse X? In this comparison, we’ll explain everything you need to know.

The Geek Bar Pulse X Retains the Geek Bar Pulse’s Signature Features

The most important thing to know about the Geek Bar Pulse X is that it retains the two signature features of the original Geek Bar Pulse. In case you’ve never used that device, here’s an overview of what those features are and how they work.

Adjustable Modes

The Geek Bar Pulse X shares the dual-coil configuration of the original Geek Bar Pulse along with its ability to operate in two different modes. In the regular mode, the Pulse X uses one of its two coils at a time, alternating between the two on each puff. In Pulse Mode, the Pulse X uses both coils at the same time, doubling the vapor production while also doubling the device’s consumption of its e-liquid supply.

Why It Matters:

Pulse Mode gives you the ability to enjoy twice as much vapor when you want it; just turn the device over and push the button. That’s useful if you don’t find traditional disposable vapes quite satisfying enough or if you occasionally need a bit of a pick-me-up after you haven’t vaped in a while. Even if you don’t use Pulse Mode, though, the dual-coil design of the Pulse X is beneficial for flavor because it helps to delay the formation of “coil gunk” – a dark residue that forms on a vape coil when you use sweetened e-liquid, eventually causing the coil to produce a burnt and smoky flavor.

Smart Display

The Geek Bar Pulse X also shares the smart display that helped to make the original Pulse famous. The display has an icon that shows the device’s current vaping mode. It also has two meters: one for the battery and another for the e-liquid supply. The battery meter ticks down until it’s time to recharge the Pulse X, and the e-liquid meter shows when the device is nearly out of vape juice.

Why It Matters:

The obvious novelty value of the digital display is one of the things that helped to propel the Geek Bar Pulse to fame, but the screen actually serves another very important purpose because it lets you know when you need to start getting ready to replace your device. Before the Geek Bar Pulse was released, the highest-capacity disposable vapes were already beginning to deliver thousands of puffs – but a big problem was that you’d have no idea when your vape was nearly at the end of its life. One day, it would simply start to taste burnt, and you’d know it was over at that point.

Having a screen with an e-liquid meter is a much more elegant solution. The device doesn’t actually know how much vape juice is left; the meter is just an approximation. When the meter reaches the bottom, though, you know that you’ll definitely need to replace your device soon. It eliminates the anxiety of not knowing how much longer your device will last.

The Geek Bar Pulse X Has a Wraparound Display

Now that you understand the similarities between the Geek Bar Pulse and Pulse X, let’s talk about the differences. The first of those is a new, larger visual display. While the display of the original Geek Bar Pulse just consumed a small panel on the side of the device, the Pulse X has a much larger wraparound display that displays a star-themed light show as you vape. Although the larger screen doesn’t display any new information that the original Pulse’s screen didn’t show, you may appreciate it if you enjoy using a vape that catches the eye.

The Geek Bar Pulse X Lasts a Little Longer than the Geek Bar Pulse

The second big difference between the Geek Bar Pulse and Pulse X is that the Pulse X has a slightly larger e-liquid supply. While the original Pulse came pre-filled with 16 ml of vape juice, the Pulse X has 18 ml. Geek Bar advertises that the extra e-liquid gives the Pulse X the ability to deliver up to 25,000 puffs, whereas the original Pulse had the stated ability to deliver 15,000 puffs. Realistically, it’s extremely unlikely that an extra 2 ml of e-liquid will allow the Geek Bar Pulse X to deliver 10,000 more puffs than the original Pulse, but you can definitely expect to get at least a few hundred extra puffs.

The Geek Bar Pulse X Has a Smaller Flavor Selection and May Be Harder to Find

One of the major differences between the Geek Bar Pulse and Pulse X isn’t actually technical at all – it’s the fact that you might have difficulty finding the Pulse X in many vape shops. That’s partially due to high demand. It’s probably also partially due to the fact that Geek Bar doesn’t want to hamstring the sales of its most successful product by reducing its capacity to continue producing the original Pulse. That trend will probably change with time if the demand for the Pulse X reaches the level that Geek Bar surely expects. Until then, though, you don’t have to worry that you’re missing out on something huge if you can only find the original Pulse. Apart from the obvious cosmetic differences, the two devices are so similar to one another that you’ll hardly notice.
