different types of cameras

Being a photographer, the one thing that always interested me was how many different camera types the market had to offer.

Sure, I am a 90s-born individual, which means that I more or less saw the entire camera industry revolutionize and for all the good reasons, to be honest.

I cannot imagine the world having the same old cameras available in the market as that would not be enough at all. If you are wondering about the types of cameras, you are at the right place because this is exactly what this guide plans on exploring.

I want the readers to know about all the cameras available in the market, so things become easier for them to decide and they are aware of both the advantages and disadvantages of various camera types.

After all, keeping my readers educated is the main thing that I want to focus on, and it is important that you are not ignoring anything.

Types Of Cameras For Photography And Videography

Now, when you start exploring the types of cameras in the market, you will be surprised by how many cameras there are. A lot of people do not really know these types and assume that there are just a few types, and that is about it.

However, that is not the case at all as you are going to be given so many different offerings, and then checking the best ones is important, so you cannot really avoid that, to be honest.

With that said, that is not to say that I am not going to walk you through all the cameras that are available or used to be available.

Do not worry, I understand that this is going to be overwhelming for some people, but hey, the more you know about these, the better it would be for everyone.

With that said, we are going to start looking at the types of cameras for both photography and videography. So, it does not matter what you are in the market for; there is something for everyone. Let’s not waste more time and have a look.

1- DSLR Cameras

The first camera type we are going to explore is the DSLR cameras. Perhaps among the most popular and longest running camera type in the market.

These cameras have become a lot more popular, and while the time for these cameras has slowly passed, they are still relevant in the market.

With that out of the way, DSLR cameras work on a rather simple mechanism. The camera has a mirror or a prism in front of the sensor.

The light enters through the lens and hits the mirror; the mirror then sends the light to the optical viewfinder, so we can see the scene in front of us.

image of the DSLR Camera

When you do press the shutter button, the mirror flips, the shutter falls down, and the light hits the sensor, and the sensor takes the picture.

The picture is then stored on digital media like a memory card. Speaking of memory cards, most of the modern DSLR cameras use your standard SD cards. So, you do not have to worry much.

With that said, DSLR cameras have been in use for as long as one can remember; they are capable of shooting both videos and photos and have all the advanced features such as autofocus, slow-motion video capture, and some even come with 4K capabilities, and fast frames per second for faster shooting speeds.

Lastly, DSLR cameras are now slowly being pushed out of the market by mirrorless cameras as they tend to be better and lighter in weight, too.

When To Use It?

I know this might sound strange to some, but a lot of people tend to be confused about when they should be using a DSLR camera. To be honest, there is nothing wrong with it using the camera whenever you feel like.

You just have to have the right information on what you are getting hands-on and whether the camera is enough for your shooting experiences or not, as this matters a lot more than one might think.

A DSLR camera can be used for pretty much anything that your heart and mind desires. If you want a good camera that can take some stunning photos, just add a good lens to it and get started.

The same goes for capturing videos, as well. The point is, these cameras are multi-purpose and are only limited by your own imagination and usability. So, you do not have to worry about any of these things in the first place.

Pros & Cons

Modern-DSLR cameras are not as common, but they do have some pros and cons still. I’ll discuss the pros first, so let’s have a look at them.

  • Great battery lives.
  • Interchangeable lenses.
  • Durable bodies.

As far as the cons are concerned, there are a few cons as well that you should be aware of.

  • Heavier.
  • Larger in size.
  • Lacking newer technologies.

As you can see, the DSLRs that are available in the market do bring their fair share of pros and cons, and it is important to know these minor differences.

Best For?

I know it might sound like that DSLR cameras are not good enough for a lot of jobs, to be honest. But that is not the case at all. It actually is the opposite. DSLR cameras have been great for several reasons and continue to be that way, as well.

Whether you are shooting videos or taking great pictures, the DSLR cameras have been the fan favorite for as long as one can remember. You are going to get great results every single time, and that is without a doubt.

Just be sure that you are using the right lens with the camera as it matters the most, or else your experience might not be as good.

2- Mirrorless Cameras

Mirrorless cameras are “relatively new” in the market. The first mirrorless camera was unveiled back in 2008, and while for the longest time, these cameras used to get defeated by the DSLR cameras, things have changed drastically ever since, and it is no longer the case, so that is a good thing.

With that said, a mirrorless camera works on a similar principle as a DSLR camera, but there are some inherent differences between both cameras that make them so different. For instance, the mirrorless lives up to its name and does not have any mirror in it.

image of the Mirrorless Camera

This means that instead of the light falling onto the mirror, it fails straight onto the sensor, which is then displayed on an electric viewfinder. From there, you decide whether you want to take a picture or not.

Another great thing about the mirrorless cameras is that thanks to the electronic viewfinder, you really do not have to worry about getting the settings wrong. You see, the EVF can reflect all the changes that you make to the camera settings in real time.

This means that if you are adjusting the ISO or the shutter speed, the mirrorless camera is going to show how things are going to look like, and it always matters a lot, and you cannot really overlook that.

This is one of the stand out features that make mirrorless cameras so much more important and so good overall, as well. You will not be let down.

When To Use It?

I will be honest here. I had a lot of people ask me if they should be using the mirrorless cameras in certain situations rather than using them as general purpose cameras, and I have always told them that just because you are getting a new technology does not mean that you should only occasionally use it.

With that said, there is no specific use case where you should be using a mirrorless camera. You can use it whenever you want, and the way you want to use it.

Just be sure that you are using the right lens for the right type of shooting you are going for, and it will all be good without any issues.

Rest assured, a mirrorless camera is the complete camera system for a lot of reasons is now the future of cameras.

Pros & Cons

Of course, we are going to look into the pros and cons of mirrorless cameras. I am going to continue with this trend throughout the whole article. So, let’s start looking at the pros.

  • Lightweight.
  • Easier to carry.
  • Smaller bodies.
  • Loaded with a lot of advanced features.
  • The electronic viewfinder is great.

As far as the cons are concerned, there is not much to dislike about mirrorless cameras in the first place.

  • Electronic viewfinder consumes more battery.

Needless to say, mirrorless cameras have started to take care of their cons and are slowly getting better and better and soon will surpass DSLR cameras almost entirely.

Best For?

If you have found yourself in a situation where you are contemplating what the benefits of mirrorless cameras are, I have already discussed them above.

However, if you are still thinking if there is any specific use case for these cameras or they are best for a certain type of photography or filmography, then that is not the case.

Mirrorless cameras are great overall and will perform excellent in almost every case. During my time using the camera, I never really felt that I needed to use something else for the job.

Whether I was taking pictures or shooting cameras, I only needed the right lens, and I was good to go

3- Bridge Cameras

Next up, we are going to look at bridge cameras. Strange name, I understand, but for those who do not know, bridge cameras are there to fill the gap between DSLRs and point and shoot cameras and have been used widely in the consumer market, as well.

However, bridge cameras are not as common nowadays even though they are being made. Now, the thing that puts these cameras in the middle is that these cameras, like the point and shoot cameras, lack an interchangeable lens system.

However, at the same time, these cameras are comparable to DSLR cameras in size, and almost all the time, these cameras do ship with all the features of a DSLR camera like full manual controls, ISO controls, as well as shutter speed controls.

image of the Bridge Cameras

The reason why these cameras are called bridge cameras is simple. The name was coined for these cameras because they bridged the gap between the much more expensive and technically advanced DSLR cameras at that time and the inferior and smaller point and shoot cameras of that time.

Another important thing that is to know here is that these cameras do not come with any viewfinders and also do not have the same 35mm sensors that are found on almost all the DSLR cameras.

You are also looking at most bridge cameras to come with super-long zoom range. However, this is not always the case, as some of these cameras do have a short zoom range as well.

When To Use It?

As the name suggests, the bridge cameras are made to fill the gap between DSLRs and point and shoot cameras.

This and the fact that they have a longer than normal zoom range makes these cameras more ideal for shooting outdoors or in situations where you need a powerful zoom range.

Again, this is, of course, going to vary from user to user, but before you decide to pick one up, I would highly suggest that you are looking at all the aspects of the camera you are getting and you are fully aware of what you are investing in because, without that, you might not get the right understanding or experience.

You would only end up losing money in this case, and I do not want that for anyone. Once you have done your research, you can go ahead and buy the camera that you think is right for your needs.

Pros & Cons

Speaking of bridge cameras, it is safe to say that some people might have a hard time understanding the benefits behind the bridge cameras, but that does not mean that these cameras do not have any benefits to begin with. You can look at the pros of the bridge cameras below.

  • Smaller and lighter than DSLRs.
  • Full manual control.
  • Impressive telephoto power.
  • One of the more affordable cameras in the market.

Sure, a lot of people may have not even heard about the bridge cameras in the first place. But the benefits of these cameras are there, so you can rest easy. But what are the downsides?

  • The lens is not interchangeable.
  • Smaller sensor.
  • The image quality is not the same.

Simply put, I am not saying that you are not going to get any benefits out of bridge cameras, but you are also going to have to deal with some downsides.

Best For?

Honestly, this was a difficult one for me to answer because a lot of the time, people are not really sure about what a certain camera is best for. But do not worry, I am here to clear out any confusions you might have about bridge cameras.

If you are wondering what this camera is best for, the answer is rather simple, to be honest.

Bridge cameras are best for moments when you just want a camera that has a versatile zoom range, but at the same time, you do not want to spend a lot of money. Bridge cameras work great in such situations, and you should know it.

4- Instant Cameras

Next up, we have Instant cameras. These cameras used to be a lot more popular back in the day, but over the past couple of years, they have become popular once again.

Now, you do have to understand that these cameras are far from digital, so they did technically come out before DSLRs or even point and shoot cameras were a thing.

With that said, these cameras are still being used, but mostly as a hobby and not in a professional capacity. Instant cameras are also known as polaroid cameras, and well, they take pictures on a film that gets captured instantly.

image of the Instant Camera

These cameras lack a lot of the things that you see on the digital cameras, and you should not expect a 35mm sensor, or a fast aperture, or in-body image stabilization either. These cameras cannot shoot video; they are a lot smaller than your average DSLR cameras.

The modern instant cameras such as Instax by Fujifilm are targeted mainly towards the younger generation, and it makes sense too because you they are not looking for something advanced and professional.

Due to the lack of all the advanced features, you are also looking at cheaper prices and build qualities, which is not really a problem.

These cameras also do not incur any additional cost that you would otherwise spend on accessories and lenses. Sure, you only need to buy the polaroid films for it, but that is it. Those films do not cost a lot of money, so you are good to go.

When To Use It?

Now, this is an important thing that you should be aware of about instant cameras. I am saying this because a lot of people are still not aware of these things, but it is true, and the more you know, the better it is going to be.

Instant cameras do not have a lot of use cases, and there is no reason to be worried about.

If you are looking at modern day instant cameras, they are made mostly for the younger generations who prefer capturing their favorite moments on tangible films, and that is all these cameras are capable of delivering.

You will not be let down whenever you are using these cameras, and you will do just fine; this is what I can assure you. You can still look for your own preferences here, of course.

Pros & Cons

Now, of course, people would want to know about the pros and cons of instant cameras since that is the format I have been using since I have started this article. Do not worry; I am not going to let you hanging out dry.

Below, you can check the benefits.

  • Lightweight.
  • Super compact.
  • Great for capturing memories in a tangible form.

At the same time, I have to tell you that there are some disadvantages of to these cameras that one should be aware of.

  • Not really good for any professional use.
  • Limited use.

Best For?

Before you go ahead and start spending money on a good instant camera, you have to get one important thing out of the way.

For starters, it is really important to know that these cameras are targeted towards people who prefer to have something that is going to give them instant results.

This means that you are not going to get access to anything advanced on this camera. There are very few controls, and most of them will make very minor difference, as well.

Additionally, you are not going to get a chance to process the pictures on your own as all these cameras shoot on film rather than shooting digitally.

Sure, they are cheaper, but their best use case is, as I have said before, for younger generations.

5- Compact Cameras / Point & Shoot Cameras

Next up, we are looking at compact or point and shoot cameras that have been in the market for as long as I can remember. I still remember the first time I got my hands on a point and shoot, and I ended up taking more pictures than I can remember.

Of course, that was my first proper experience with a digital camera, and it work really well. I believe that is when I realized my true love for photography and capturing moments.

With that said, despite being an old technology, point and shoot cameras never really went out of fashion.

image of the Point and Shoot Camera

Almost all the famous camera manufacturers like Sony and Canon are still making point and shoot cameras.

These cameras have reached such technical prowess that if you are looking for something small and you want to indulge in everyday vlogging, investing in such a camera is a great start.

Of course, I am not going to say that the quality you are going to get is going to be the same as what you would expect from a DSLR or a mirrorless, but it still is good enough for your day-to-day content.

To be honest, a lot of YouTubers have been using point and shoot cameras to shoot their vlogs, and sometimes, it is hard to tell which camera is being used.

Modern point and shoot cameras even come with wireless technology, HDMI, and other modern tech to make life even easier.

When To Use It?

Now the next thing that you would want to know about is just when you should be using a point and shoot camera, and to be honest, this camera is not at all short on its use cases.

Quite the opposite, actually. Like I have said before, for the longest time, point and shoot cameras have been very famous, and they have only become better.

You can use point and shoot cameras for photos as well as videos, but most of the modern point and shoots from the likes of Sony and other companies are mainly used for vlogging, and they do a great job.

Most of them come complete with a mount for a microphone and all the other ports that you would need to have a small vlogging setup.

These cameras are affordable, and they are great at getting the job done.

Pros & Cons

Next up, we have to start looking at the pros and cons of these cameras, and again, you have to understand that these are there if you are looking at them.

Sure, you might feel like you are not going to get any benefit out of these cameras, but that is not the case at all because the benefits are certainly there.

Let’s tell you about some of the pros, so you know what you are getting into.

  • They are super compact.
  • Easy to carry.
  • Lightweight.
  • Great for everyday vlogging.
  • Do not cost as much.

That is not the say that you are not going to run into any downsides. So, let’s look at those.

  • Not ideal for photography.
  • Even though they have advanced features, they still fall behind in many cases.

Overall, the point and shoot cameras fair better even in the modern world where cameras are rapidly evolving.

Best For?

A lot of people are under the impression that these cameras are not good for anything, but that is not at all the case. Quite the opposite if you ask me. Point and shoot cameras are great if you are looking to shoot video or make vlogs.

These cameras are small enough and even come with their microphone mount, a 3.5mm audio jack, and everything else that you would need to start your vlogging channel without any hiccup.

You will do just fine whenever you are going with a good point and shoot camera; that is what I can guarantee.

6- Action Cameras / GoPro Cameras

Next up, we are looking at the insanely popular action cameras or commonly known as GoPro cameras.

Even though the latter is just a company, GoPro more or less made the place for action cameras in the market by introducing their Hero lineup of cameras and releasing new iterations almost every year, making these cameras better and better.

As the name suggests, these cameras are for all the people who are looking to go on an adventure and are not afraid to bring their cameras with them because they want to record everything.

Going hiking? Take an action camera with you. Taking part in high-adrenaline activities? Record everything with an action camera.

image of the GoPro Camera

These cameras are small, but at the same time, they are very, very rugged and easily withstand most of the harsher conditions without giving in. Sure, they are moderately expensive, but you are going to get a great experience.

These cameras normally have an ultra-wide field of view, and they are mostly used to shoot videos. However, almost all of these cameras do have the feature that lets you pull out stills straight out of the video without compromising quality.

Overall, action cameras, or GoPro cameras, have become a lot more popular than we had initially, though, and this rise in popularity is only going to go up as the time passes by. You will not be let down if you are spending money on this camera.

When To Use It?

Now, some people might run into issues telling you about what certain camera types are for, but when you are talking about action cameras, the whole case is pretty self-explanatory, to be honest.

If you are looking for situations when you would be using this camera, then there are several.

For starters, you are looking at a camera that can be used in almost every case where you are trying to capture your activities.

Even if you are doing some handy work and you want to record the video of it, you can do so. Even if you are playing some extreme sports and you want to record everything, the action camera is going to allow you to do that just fine.

The point is that these cameras do have a lot of use cases, and you can never really ignore those.

Pros & Cons

With all the good things aside, even action cameras do come with their fair share of pros and some cons. We are going to take a look at the pros first.

  • They are super-small.
  • Rugged construction that can withstand various weather conditions.
  • Easy to carry.
  • High quality sensors.
  • Ultra-wide field of view.
  • High quality video output.

There are also a few cons that we are going to take a look at.

  • No interchangeable lens system.
  • Mainly made for videos.

Still, action cameras are very, very popular, and I doubt that this demand is going anywhere.

Best For?

I think I have made myself clear here, but we can always do a little recap, so you know what you are getting into. If you are looking at what the action cameras are best known for.

They are known for capturing the action as it is happening; you can strap one onto your head or your torso and start recording all the action as it happens.

These cameras are no longer cheap, but at least they work really well, and the best part is that they are not going to come in the way of your action.

They capture massive moments and do a great job at that, too. Just invest in a good quality action camera, and you are good to go.

7- Film Cameras

The next up, we are looking at film cameras. Again, these are perhaps one of the most different cameras out there when you compare them to some of the other offerings that are openly available.

As the name suggests, the cameras are built specifically for film and nothing else.

I know it might sound strange, but these cameras are widely used both in the YouTube space and, of course, in filmmaking, and they are excellent at their job without causing too much of a hassle for anyone.

image of a beauty vlogger

With that out of the way, you have to understand that these cameras mostly use a 35mm or a super 35mm sensor and normally come with interchangeable lens systems as well.

So, you are fully aware of the fact that you are getting something that is good and reliable, as well. I can tell you already that there is not a single issue that will come in the way as far as using these cameras is concerned.

They are commonly made by manufacturers such as Blackmagic, Red, Canon, Sony, and more companies. There are a few companies that exclusively make film cameras, as well.

You can, of course, get all the information on these cameras, and while it might look like that their use case is limited, that is not the point at all, as, without these cameras, shooting film might not be possible at all.

When To Use It?

If you are wondering when to use film cameras, the answer is really simple, to be honest. If you are finding yourself in a situation where you have to shoot videos, then getting your hands on a film camera is the right thing to do, to be honest.

You also have to understand that film cameras are going to be expensive, and therefore, choosing the right one is always the thing to do because otherwise, you would be spending a lot of money and that never really is a good idea and I would always suggest that you are avoiding such a situation, in the first place.

Overall, film cameras are great, and you can make the most of them once you are being wiser about them. All you have to do is choose the right lens and camera combination, and you are off to the races.

Pros & Cons

Of course, with all the other cameras, let’s pay attention to the pros and cons of film cameras as well.

However, considering how these cameras are made specifically for the film, I am not going to deduct any points for the camera’s incapability of delivering photos as well.

With that said, let’s look at the pros first.

  • Amazing technical prowess.
  • Loads of way to customize it.
  • Great dynamic range.
  • Can use pretty much any lens you want to on these.

As far as the cons are concerned, they are listed below for your understanding.

  • These cameras are big.
  • They are on the expensive side.

Best For?

Honestly, this question is pretty simple and straightforward. What is a film camera best for? Well, if you are making a film, I would always suggest that you invest in a film camera because that is what this camera does and it handles the job really well.

However, some YouTubers have also started using film cameras for shooting their YouTube videos.

It seems like overkill, but if you are looking for unrivaled video quality, I doubt that you can do anything better than a film camera as it is going to get the job done really well and without causing anyone too many issues.

However, before you go ahead and invest your money on an expensive film camera, look at your options and then decide if that is what you want.

8- 360 Degree Cameras

It should not come as a surprise that 360 degree cameras have slowly become a lot more prominent than they used to be.

Thanks to the cameras from Insta360 or GoPro. Now, the thing about the camera is that, as the name suggests, these cameras are great for capturing the world around, and while they are just as small as action cameras, they capture a lot more.

However, the thing about these cameras is that due to their small size, they are not built for carrying around a lot of footage, and most cameras do not even capture longer videos. Still, 360 cameras are a lot more fun than one can think.

image of the 360 Degree Camera

My first experience with a 360-degree camera was with an Insta360, and while that time, I did think that the overall use case of this camera is confusing.

However, after spending some time with the camera, I realized that it is a lot more convenient than one might think, and more importantly, it is a lot of fun, as well.

You might want to read more about this and be familiar with the camera, as that is going to be one of the more crucial parts that you need to focus on.

Rest assured, once you have done your research on the camera, you are going to be able to understand whether a 360 degree camera is for you or not.

When To Use It?

Now, if you are wondering just when you should be using the Insta360, it is important to understand that you will need to have specific use cases for such a camera. This is clearly not your everyday camera, and the more you are aware of it, the better it would be.

If you are going out hiking or on some adventure with your friends, you would be in a much better position to use this camera.

These cameras are specifically built for such purposes, and if that is not what you are aiming to get out of this camera, then you might as well want to look at some of the other offerings that are available for you to try out.

The point here is that the options are there if you are interested in checking out, and there are plenty of them.

Pros & Cons

Speaking of the pros and cons of the action cameras. It is obvious that you are going to run into some of them. The experience is, of course, going to be there, so you should be paying attention to the pros and cons of the camera. Let’s have a look at the pros first, and then we can move to the cons.

  • One of the smallest cameras in the market.
  • Can be easily pocketed.
  • Records videos in 360 degrees.
  • Fun to take on adventures.

Below are some of the cons

  • Not really useful for much other than videos.

Best For?

If you are looking for reasons to use this camera or looking at why this is the best camera that you can get for a certain case, then the one use case that I would always suggest is that this camera is great for the purpose of using it whenever you are out taking videos with your friends.

If you are going hiking, climbing, cycling, or doing some other activity that is a lot of fun and is also physical, getting a 360-degree camera is great because you will not have any issues, to be honest.

You will do just fine with a good quality camera and take as much footage as the camera allows.

9- Medium Format Cameras

For the longest time, medium format cameras have been referred to as film format in photography and related cameras.

However, that has changed as nowadays, medium format is a term that applies to both film and digital cameras that are able to record images on media larger than 24mm x 36mm.

Medium format sensors are larger than your average 35mm sensors, and the medium format cameras also have a massive megapixel count as opposed to your standard full frame cameras.

More often than not, filmmakers use medium format cameras; while some prefer shooting it on film, a lot of them are able to convert these into digital cameras, too.

image of the Medium Format Camera

Additionally, medium format cameras are also widely used in the brand photography world.

Most of the brands that you see shoot using medium format cameras, and thanks to a high megapixel count, the images come out really massive and can easily be printed for massive billboards and hoardings without the loss of quality.

Medium format cameras, due to their prowess, are often more expensive than your standard full frame cameras and for all the right lenses. As far as the lenses are concerned, medium format can take different lenses due to the adaptability factor.

Now, it is important to understand that medium format cameras are not at all built for average photographers because they are not only bulky but also ridiculously expensive, sometimes costing above $10,000.

When To Use It?

As far as the use case of medium format cameras is concerned, this is not something that is going to vary.

Whether you are a videographer or a photographer, medium format cameras can be of great use to you, but you have to be sure that the camera you are looking at is actually good and is not going to let you down.

Rest assured, if you have the means to get your hands on a medium format camera, it is going to make up for an excellent purchase, and it will not even let you down.

However, you have to be certain that you are not buying the camera just because it seems like a smart option because it is not at all the case, and you are only looking at spending more money.

Take some time before you finally decide on what you want, and you will do just fine, that I can assure you.

Pros & Cons

Now, of course, we are going to continue the format here as well, and we will be looking at the pros and cons of the medium format camera.

Do not get me wrong, the camera is excellent, but it is not built for everyone, as with all the other cameras that I have listed here.

Still, let’s look at what the pros you are going to get from this camera.

  • Available in really high resolution options.
  • Larger sensors are able to process or more light.
  • Critically acclaimed in the commercial and professional markets.

As far as the downsides are concerned.

Not suitable for hobbyists and, in some cases, average professional photographers.

Best For?

If you have finally decided to go into the market and start looking at a medium format camera for yourself, the good news is that there is no shortage of some excellent options available for you to get your hands on.

However, it is important that not all of them are the same, and things can easily go wrong in the process, as well. Therefore, the right thing is to look at all the options and then decide.

Medium format cameras are great for a number of tasks, including brand and fashion photography, filmmaking, and large advertisements and media. The purpose here is to make life easier for everyone, so you are able to get the most out of your equipment.

10- Smartphone Cameras

They say the best camera is the one that you have on you, and that is something that has long been proven true. When phones started coming with cameras, the cameras were not as good, and therefore, a lot of people did not pay much attention to the situation.

However, we are no longer in the same age as we used to be in. Smartphone cameras have become a lot more potent than they used to be, to a point that a single smartphone camera can satisfy all your needs.

Sure, the look and feel of the image and videos is not going to be the same, but you are looking at some of the best results produced.

image of two smartphones from the back

On the right hand, a smartphone camera is one of the best in the world, and it all depends on how you are using it and how good your eye is when it comes to capturing all the details.

I understand that this might not be the easiest for everyone, but hey, the option is there; you just have to make the most of it.

With that said, there is a huge discrepancy when you are talking about smartphone cameras. You see, the more you are spending on the phone, the better the cameras are going to be, and there comes a point where you feel like you are paying for flagship cameras alone.

So, it is better that you are doing more research than you would otherwise.

When To Use It?

Whenever you are looking at smartphone cameras, you have to be aware of the fact that that there is no specific use case for these cameras.

You can use them whenever you feel like and however you feel like. The process of using these cameras is as easy as it can be, and you will not run into any problems, either.

The point here is that you should be looking into all the aspects of a smartphone camera, so you are good to go.

Again, I have to emphasize the situation that using smartphone cameras is not limited to “when” or even how. You can use the cameras whenever you want and use them according to your needs and requirements.

It won’t be difficult for anyone to wrap their mind around.

Pros & Cons

Looking at the pros and cons of smartphone cameras. Honestly, if you are looking to get a good phone, then you should not really have any problems in the process. The cameras are simple and straightforward, and they work really well, too.

For now, we are just going to take a look at the pros and cons of smartphone cameras.

  • They travel with you.
  • Can take amazing pictures
  • Lots of features in a single camera.
  • Easy to use with pro/manual mode for advanced users.

Below are some of the cons.

  • Still not on par with professional cameras.

Best For?

Lastly, a lot of you are interested in knowing what smartphone cameras are best used for, and to be honest, there is no actual answer to that. Like I have said before, these cameras have been used so much that it is hard to find out what they are best used for.

Not just that, there is so much variation whenever you are looking at smartphone cameras that it often becomes difficult to decide what you are looking into.

Therefore, it is better that you are looking at this from an open mind. Use the smartphone that you have in your best interest, and you will have a much easier time and experience. This is what I can assure you.

11- Drone Camera

The last camera that we are looking at is a drone camera. Now, I do understand that drones have been around for a long, long time, but the thing is that most people think of these as just hobby toys that you are going to use for flying around whenever you feel bored or something along the lines of that.

Sure, that statement is also true because whenever you are looking at these toys, they are built for several purposes.

But DJI is one of the biggest drone player in the market, and their Mavic lineup of drones is excellent since you truly get an experience of flying a drone and the best part is that you are not really going to run into any issues, either.

The drone cameras, as the name suggests, are a lot like GoPro or action cameras, in other way. However, this time around, you are getting something that is used solely for aerial photography and videography.

Drone cameras have an ultra-wide field of view, and everything looks excellent whenever you are using a drone camera. I can assure you that if you are looking to get access to something that is good, a drone camera is going to do the job for you.

One more thing that you should note here is that these cameras are largely used whenever you are trying to go for aerial photography or videography, and using it for any other reason makes no sense.

When to Use It?

Now, this is something that should not really come as a surprise to anyone, to be honest. If you are wondering when to use a drone camera, there are a few instances when you can actually go ahead and use it with ease.

If you are looking to use it so you can fly it around, this is the camera you want to go with, and the best part is that it is not going to complicate anything for you, either.

Just focus on getting access to the best drone that you can get, or at least give it a try before you invest money in it, as that is going to make the most difference, and you cannot really just avoid that.

Rest assured, this is only going to make life easier for you, and that is what I can assure you.

Pros & Cons

Okay, let’s start looking at the pros and cons of going for a drone camera. Honestly, this should not come as a surprise to anyone because they are great for a lot of reasons and you can easily buy the ones that you think are good for you.

  • Drone cameras are excellent for both aerial photography and videography.
  • Lots of potential and chances to get some excellent looking shots as well.
  • The footage looks great.
  • Flying the drone is a lot more fun than one might think.

As far as the cons are concerned, there is not a lot to dislike but let’s look at it anyway.

  • Useful only for aerial photography/videography.

Best For?

Drone cameras have a very specific use case. Perhaps way more specific than any of the other cameras that I have reviewed so far, and there is nothing wrong with it, either.

If you are looking to get your hands on something that is good, then a drone camera should get the job done for you, and it will do a great job at that, too.

You just have to look at a proper drone camera that you think is going to suit you, and that should get the job done for you, to be honest. I know it might not be an easy find for beginners, but the market is filled with some excellent drone cameras.

Wrap-Up:

There you have it, folks. After extensive research, I am finally done with looking at the best drone cameras available in the market.

I understand that this is not something everyone had hoped for, but hey, you are only getting an excellent camera, and you are going to get a good experience.

The reason here is simple, I want my readers to be as well-versed in cameras as possible because without having the information, you might not be able to get the proper experience, and that is not useful for anyone.

Rest assured, the plan here was to look at as many cameras as possible and find out the best ones because this is going to help a lot of people have a much better experience deciding on what they should be going with.

Again, I can tell you that I have tried my best to keep the article as informative as possible when you are talking about the cameras, so you do not have a hard time choosing what is best for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1- What are the two main types of cameras?

Answer: Generally, two of the main types of cameras involve a camera that is for taking pictures and the camera that is designed to shoot videos.

Aside from this classification, these cameras are divided into various types based on their use for the consumer and how they are marketed as well.

Q2- How many main types of cameras are there?

Answer: At the time of writing, I have covered 11 types of cameras. However, pinhole cameras were excluded as the technology behind the camera’s been long obsolete, and they are not actively manufactured anymore in the market. Hence, including them in the list made very little sense.

Q3- Which type of camera is best for photography?

Answer: Whenever you are looking for a camera that is great for photography, I would suggest that you are going for either a full frame camera or a crop sensor camera. Now, this camera can either be a mirrorless or a DSLR. That choice is entirely yours.

Q4- What camera do most photographers use?

Answer: Photographers around the world use various camera types that are available in the market.

At the time of writing, Sony, Canon, and Nikon are three of the biggest camera manufacturers, and most photographers you meet will be using a camera from one of these manufacturers.

Q5- What is the best camera type?

Answer: This is an open-ended question as not every camera is made with the same purpose.

So, the whole process of calling one camera better than the other is not going to work because that is never the case. There are things that a mirrorless camera can do and a DSLR cannot or otherwise.

Q6- What is the best camera for everyday use?

Answer: The best camera is the one that you carry with you. if you are looking for the best camera to start, you can just go with a good smartphone camera that is able to take care of all your photography needs, and you will not have any problems with that camera, either that is what I can assure you.

Q7- Which is the No 1 camera in the world?

Answer: Again, another important question that you should know is that no two cameras are going to be the same. There are always minor differences that can come in the way and change the course of your camera buying experience.

Q8- Do professional photographers use mirrorless cameras?

Answer: Yes, considering the popularity of mirrorless cameras, professional photographers have started moving towards those cameras as their default choice as these cameras are a lot more modern, packed with more features, and easier to carry.

Q9- What camera do National Geographic photographers use?

Answer: That also depends on various factors. National Geographic photographers mainly carry cameras that offer high speed shooting because it is always better to be able to capture something in the middle of the action rather than missing out on this. Therefore, it is important to know all about this.

Q10- Why is Canon more popular than Nikon?

Answer: Canon’s rise to popularity started after Canon started introducing higher end features in their cameras and having a very simplified lens mounting system.

Therefore, Canon has become a lot more popular, but over the past couple of years, Nikon has also caught up with Canon in terms of features.
